Southwest Parke Community Schools welcomes students back to school after COVID-19 induced break

Be "open" and "honest" and "follow their instructions".

"vigo county" isn't the only district "with cases".

"southwest parke" is just re-opening its buildings today.

"covid-19 cases" sent students home for nearly "2"-weeks "of remote learning" news 10's "dominic miranda"..

Explains..

How the transition has gone.

////// //////// on august 11th i stood right here to tell you how students at southwest parke community schools were dismissed early due to a covid-19 outbreak.

They returned to the classroom on monday for the first time in nearly two weeks.

I spoke with superintendent dr. phil harrison to see how the e-learning break went... and got an update on the covid-19 situation here in parke county.

Dr. harrison says although the outbreak was at the high school, e-learning for the past week and a half had been corporation wide.

He says the transition to e-learning was smooth due to teachers and students previous experience with it.

Harrison told me a handful of students were suspected of having covid-19 due to close contact over the course of e-learning.

He says the good news is that they were able to continue their education while under quarantine.... and they didn't negatively impact any other students in the process.

Harrison told me he's just happy students can be back in school, and the school corporation wil continue providing the best education possible for their students.

So} dr. phil harrison superintendent, swpcsc "the overall sense here is one of excitement because we get to have students back in our classrooms. we certainly didn't enjoy the immediate shutdown we had to undertake, but now that we have that under our belt, we are looking forward and we are very hopeful that we can continue to operate."

Coming up at 6, i'll have more from dr. harrison on how he feels the school corporation weathered the covid-19 storm.... and what he expects moving forward.

In parke county.

I'm dominic miranda.
