### welcome in.

I'm tom kenny.

We thank you for joining us this evening.

And i'm veronica jean seltzer.

Calling it a tough... but necessary step.... governor andy beshear says he's recommending all schools in the state push back the in-person start date.

That's our top story at five.

L3: top story white gov.

Wants schools' in-person start date pushed back recommended september 28 the governor is recommending all schools postponing in-person classes until september 28th.

He says he is making the recommendation over concerns about the number of coronavirus cases and the positivity rate in the state.

Last friday... the kentucky education association said schools should only resume in-person learning when the state's positivity rate remained below four-percent.

Several school districts have already announced the first few weeks of school would be online learning only... including fayette county.

The governor released new coronavirus numbers today... but he says they come with an asterick.

According to the governor... a software glitch encountered over the weekend has thrown the numbers off slightly... and the numbers released today may be "artificially low."

Fs img txt bullets:no coronavirus in kentucky source: office of the governor coronavirus 6.jpg new case ... he says.... as of right now.... the numbers show 275 new cases of the virus.... with a total of 35,254 cases overall.

There are also two new deaths from the virus.

Since the pandemic began in march.... 775 kentuckians have died from the virus.

As for the positivity rate.... the governor says it is now at 5-point-7-1 percent... slightly down from the weekend.

According to the lexington-fayette county health department... there were 138 new cases over the weekend... that's 69 on saturday.... and 69 more on sunday.

Ots image:right selling during pandemic housing sales.jpg if you're trying to buy a house right now during the pandemic...good luck.

An already stressful process...is even more nerve wracking now.

But... abc 36's christy bollinger found out...it's not so bad if you're trying to sell.

Christy"guide realty says buyers are facing some unique challenges during this pandemic, like the fact there's a lot more buyers than sellers right now."

And ohhh does first time home buyer marcellus barksdale know that.

Buyer-marcellus"the hardest part about the whole process was actually finding a house just with it being so competitive and with it being a sellers market."

Expecting their first child...he and his girlfriend started looking for a home this summer.

Buyer"we thought we found the perfect house and we put an offer in, the house became available that morning we saw it later that morning put an offer in first thing that afternoon and there was already 5 or 6 offers so kind of got discouraged."

His realtor and mom, ivy barksdale, says she's working with more buyers than ever before... but the number of houses for sale is at a record low.

Realtor-ivy"i mean houses are selling same day certainly within three days."

A positive..

Interest rates are historically low..

Sometimes under three-percent.

But the high demand is driving up the price.

Owner/realtor- raquel"we already struggle with an affordability issue and now we have our median pricepoint here in lexington that's 234,000 dollars."

Owner of guide realty, raquel carter, says buyers have it the hardest, but often, sellers are also buying.

Raquel"they may have to write 5 or 6 offers on properties before they can get one and each of those offers can be over asking price, can be as is and they may still not get the house they selected."

Barskdale also had to go above his original price range.

Buyer"really we're super blessed to finally be able to get an offer even accepted."

He closes on the house at the end of the month, around the same time his baby is due.

An exciting new beginning...after a long journey...home.

The beverly hills supper club fire is the third largest nightclub fire in u-s history.

Doug high takes us back to that tragic evening in kentucky history treasures.

### doug high: the year was 1977 a popular and overcrowded nightclub in northern kentucky suffered a catastrophic fire that took the lives of 165 people.

We remember this tragedy and lessons learned through a collection of artifacts at the kentucky historical society.

Beth carter: the beverly hills supper club fire is, it is a kentucky story.

It is important to kentucky history.

The number of people that i've met who maybe knew somebody at the club that night or maybe they were supposed to be there, this is a personal connection to them.

So the beverly hills supper club was an attraction, it was a hot spot, it was a nightclub.

Just about two, two and a half miles south of cincinnati across the ohio river, it was in southgate, kentucky.

It started as a nightclub, a dinner spot.

There was some illicit gambling.

It was a great place to be seen, to go and see some incredible acts.

So it starts in the 1930s and then runs through 1977.

Doug high: years of adding onto the nightclub and inadequate fire safety precautions along the way collided with the overcrowded venue that fateful evening and led to disaster.

Beth carter: so the beverly hills supper club fire resulted in 165 deaths and over 200 injuries.

It's the third largest nightclub fire in us history.

Doug high: items from the nightclub have found their way to the kentucky historical society's collection and they provide a touchstone to the past.

Beth carter: objects in the beverly hills supper club collection can connect people to this tragedy who, first of all, if they knew somebody or remembered the tragedy, that's a very personal connection and there's a power in artifact that people can connect with there.

Having this collection allows us to continue to have that conversation and then also not to forget about what happened there and the lives that were lost or affected.

Doug high: the commonwealth and the country responded.

The fire code would strengthened, new rules and regulations put in place, and the artifacts remain to help tell the story of those lives lost.

He says outdoor seating is preferable and people must wear masks.

The governor released new coronavirus numbers today... but he says they come with an asterick.
