Mauritius residents rush to help efforts to contain oil spill

Local residents rushed to contain the oil spill that befell Mauritius after a bulk carrier run aground a coral reef on the island on July 25.

Residents made makeshift absorbent barriers of straw-stuffed into fabric sacks in a bid to contain and absorb the oil.

Some of the oil has already reached the coasts.
