BJP chief JP Nadda lashed out at the Mamata Banerjee government in West Bengal and accused it of being anti-Hindu. Speaking at the party’s West Bengal state executive meeting, Nadda said that Trinamool Congress government lifted the lockdown for Bakrid but imposed it again on the day of the Ram Temple ‘bhoomi poojan’ on 5th August. Nadda questioned the need for a lockdown on August 5th and alleged that it was done to prevent people from being part of the occasion at the local level. Nadda further said that this is politics of appeasement and added that it shows the anti-Hindu mindset of the TMC government in the state. The BJP president said that the Mamata Banerjee government’s anti-Hindu stance needs to be exposed in front of the people of the state. He said that the BJP had been making constant strides in terms of vote percentage in the state and urged people to throw away the Trinamool government in the state and bring the BJP to power. A team of the BMC reached Kangana Ranaut’s residence this morning and razed the ‘illegal structure’ that was allegedly built with approval of the civic body. (CNN) New York City diners may soon see a Covid-19 surcharge on their bills as the restaurant industry continues to hobble due to the coronavirus pandemic. The New York City Council passed a bill on Wednesday 46-2 that would allow restaurants to charge as much as 10% on customers dining indoors or outdoors to help cover Covid-19 expenses. Labeled the "COVID-19 Recovery Charge," the surcharge does not add to the bill's overall tax, nor applies to delivery or takeout orders.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on September 19 said that West Bengal government did not share data of returning migrant labourers with the Centre and no district of the state could be included as a beneficiary under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Rozgar Abhiyan (PMGKRA). She was answering a query by Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury in Lok Sabha. "Prime Minister Narendra Modi initiated PMGKRA for migrant labourers who came back to their villages during the coronavirus-induced lockdown. This scheme was introduced on June 20 this year and will be effective for 125 days. The minister said 116 districts spread across six states - Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan are benefiting from this scheme. The selection of the districts was made on the basis of the return of at least 25,000 migrant labourers to the concerned districts by May 30. After the launch of PMGKRA, there were demands from Tripura and Chhattisgarh to include more districts but it was not entertained. In the case of West Bengal, there was no data shared by the state government then how could the districts of the state be included in the scheme," said Sitharaman.
A mishap occurred during celebration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday in Chennai on September 17. Workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party had collected helium balloons as part of the festivities. However, sparks from fireworks reportedly led to an explosion in the balloons. Over 30 BJP workers were reportedly injured in the incident and had to be rushed to a hospital. Their injuries were minor, as per reports. The BJP observed 'seva saptah' or service week to mark PM Modi's birthday. He turned 70 on September 17 and tweeted that what he wants on his birthday is for people to follow Covid precautions like wearing face masks and following social distancing. Rajasthan would soon host several development projects in textile, defence and aviation sectors. For this, the Rajasthan Government has entered into an understanding with SVP International Group for investment of Rs. 4,000 crore for development of facilities related to these sectors. In presence of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, an MoU was signed. As per the agreement, SVP Group would develop a project for defence and aerospace including aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facilities, an aviation academy and another project related to textile. These projects would generate employment for more than 4000 people. Prior to this, representatives gave a presentation and shared the details of projects proposed by the company. For time-bound implementation of these investment projects, the state government has constituted a committee chaired by Principal Secretary Industries. Commissioner, Investment and NRIs will be the Member Secretary, Managing Director RIICO, concerned District Collectors, Director Civil Aviation and representatives of SVP group will also be the members of this committee.
Kangana Ranaut landed in Mumbai this afternoon amid protests by Shiv Sena workers at the airport. Members of the Republican of India and the fringe Karni Sena were also present at the airport to offer their support to Kangana. Shiv Sena workers held posters and chanted slogans demanding that the actor go to Pakistan. This after Kangana had earlier compared Mumbai to PoK in her tweet and said she stood vindicated in a tweet this morning. The Uttar Pradesh Sunni Central Waqf Board had created the Indo-Islamic Cultural Foundation (IICF) trust for building a mosque and other facilities on the land allotted in Ayodhya by the Uttar Pradesh Government on the Supreme Court's instructions in Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid case.
