I'm in front of lowndes county court house where i spoke to a few folks about their thoughts on the new mask mandate.

"this is a very serious pandemic" lowndes supervisor, leroy brooks, said he is happy the governor issued a mask order after supervisors asked him because of a rise in coronavirus cases in the county.

"i'm glad that he did because there were some questions to whether he would.

He didn't say he would or wouldn't.

And of course our whole concern was trying to get something going pretty quick" miranda shaughnesy lives in lowndes county.

She said she was pleasantly surprised by governor reeves' announcement.

She didn't think he would add more counties.

"um excited to hear how seriously the governor is taking this.

I think it's not true for a lot of southern states and um it's nice to see mississippi be an expectation."

Miranda's stepson has type one diabetes along with other health conditions.

She said the governor's order will help protect him and many others from getting sick.

"wearing masks and maintaining our social distance are gonna be one of the few things that's going to get us out of this pandemic.

I mean it's only the least we can do to try to be considerate of one another and decrease the chances of us getting sick" tag: the mask mandate will extend to august 17th in lowndes.
