A couple were stunned when they returned home from a pub dinner and discovered a fire crew rescuing their pet dog who had tried to escape - and got stuck on the ROOF.Cathryn Wood, 36, had been out for lunch with her husband, Phil, 46, and his parents at a nearby Wetherspoons and returned home to see emergency responders at their address.Initially they feared that their house in Helston, Cornwall, may be on fire - but soon they saw Phil's parents' dog - Tammy - on the roof. They soon learned that Tammy, alongside Cathryn and Phil's dog, Maple, had escaped through a bedroom window and clambered onto the roof.Cathryn, a trainee manager at Sainsburys, said: "We'd gone into the town for some food because Phil's family were down and we left the dogs at home."Phil's family were down and we'd just gone to Wetherspoon's for tea.

We weren't gone for long, only about an hour."We were talking up through the town and Maple was running down the main street, we picked her up and as we got closer to home there was a fire engine outside."I thought there had been a fire but as we got closer we saw a crowd of people and Tammy was on the roof."Maple, a cockerpoo, and Tammy, a sprocker spaniel, had been spotted on the roof on Sunday evening and neighbours called 999.Maple had managed to get down before the fire brigade arrived and ran down the street to greet Cathryn when she returned. Cathryn believes the two dogs had managed to jump onto a bed and then onto a unit and out through a window in the roof. While Maple had managed to get down, Tammy was left pawing the roof in fear.Cathryn added: "Maple had already jumped down but Tammy was too scared.

She was petrified."They've never done anything like this before, she's escaped over the fence before but she's never gone onto the roof."People couldn't believe it, they were like, 'oh my god', and there was a crowd of people watching."It's so hot in the attic that I have to leave the window open, but from now on I'll have to keep the bedroom door shut."It's lucky that no one was injured, and the dogs, and that there was no fire.

I heard someone singing who let the dogs out when I got back."In the video, Phil's stepdad Steve can be seen climbing out the window and coaxing Tammy back to safety.Cathryn and Phil, a Navy air craft engineer, have four children - Gracie, five, Ryan, 15, Faith, 16, Esme, 13.
