Tradition in st.

Joseph will be put on pause this fall... the organizers of southside fall festival have decided to call it off this year..kq2's danielle socksee joins us in studio with the decision on why they canceled..

Thanks alan... it was a tough decision for the fall festival committee to cancel an event that means so much to the comminity... just a few weeks ago the organizers were ready to go, but as of monday night, the committee voted to cancel the event... <<it was just too big of a risk..."well, it's sad really, it really is.

But, we have to think of the safety of the people and all the people coming to the festival.

And what's the safest way to put this on.

And we couldn't come up with a good answer for that."there is no good answer on how to safely host a big event, but the committee looked to the local health guidelines, and knew how difficult it would be to move forward..."a small group of 20 volunteers it's hard to do everything that needs to be done to keep everyone safe."

And it's not just the lack of volunteers..."the numbers for the coronavirus have not went down, they've been stayng steady or going up.

That was part of our decision.

And also our sponsorship money coming in and our donations have been way down, so that went into our decison.

Plus all the mini groups that help us put on this festival.

We have several other groups that help us.

How much help that they was going to give us weighed in our decision.")the festival has a big impact on the communityincluding garry pettis and his wife who have been on the committiee for more than 20 years now, seeing it canceled for the first time.."about 4 years ago, the area was flooded and we had to move it back to october, but this was the first year that it was canceled."the festival may be canceled, but they are still looking for donations and volunteers for next year... "if people want to tshirt.

We are lagging behind on sponsorships.

So, if businesses can make donations to us if they want, the is through our facebook page.">>" the theme for this year's festival was suppossed to be 'frontline workers', and the committe plans on keeping it for next year to honor all of those who have been working extra hard during the pandemic reporting in studio, danielle sachse, kq2 news missouri set a
