Fort Wayne police recap 4th of July weekend shootings, seeking public's help

The Fort Wayne Police Department recapped a holiday weekend with several shootings on Monday.

Thanks for joining us tonight.seven people wounded in five separate shootings over the holiday weekend.one man is dead while the others..including a child shot near a park..are expected to survive.fox 55's jeremy masukevich tells us how fort wayne police are asking for the public's help after what they're calling one of the summit city's most violent weekends.

We haven't seen this kind of violence in a weekend in a very long time if ever.sgt.

We need to start taking a serious tone to change the community and change what we are willing to accept as normal in this community.the deadly shooting happened early sunday morning during a large party on corydon court on the city's northeast side.sot sofia it was a large juvenile and young-adult party.

It was about 100 people at that party so we know there are witnesses that saw this shooting.all of the other shootings happened on the city's southeast side saturday as fireworks lit up the night sky.a man is now expected to survive after he was shot in the head on drexel avenue.

Sot sofiathat one is particularly concerning because we had actual people at the crime scene cleaning up the crime scene before we got there.

Rosales-scatena says a stray bullet struck a teenage girl near a fort wayne mobile home and a boy was shot at weisser park.she says three adults were also shot near the park after an incident at a nearby party.all sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Sot sofia it doesn't just happen in the poorer neighborhoods, it doesnt just happen in a neighborhood that isnt yours.

Corydon court is a prime example that these things trickle out all over the city.

Specifically with the corydon court investigation rosales-scatena is urging parents to sit down with their children who may have attended the party...as police suspect no parents were present and the majority in attendance were teens.sot sofia if you are complicit in hiding or aiding a criminal we will charge you, thats a guarantee.

We are not going to go down that path when we have people criminally involving themselves in investigation and not having to face any consequences for that.fwpd is asking for any community members with information about any one of the five shootings to call crime stoppers.sot sofia its time to take back our community.

I think we have become immune or desensitized to things that go on in this community when they don't particularly effect our neighborhoods and thats a problem.
