Fireworks are beautiful but they cause chaos to your pets.

Speaking with Dr. Ed Barnett he gives you ways in which you can make sure your furry friend is okay.

Be sunday, july 5th.

Those fireworks can be traumatizing for some pets.

Which means you need to pay extra close attention to them.

News 10's bri shackelford tells us what you can do to help your furry friends.

It's firework season here in the wabash valley.

For many of us...it's a time of celebration.

But -- to our pets it can be a traumatic event.

I spoke with doctor ed barnett about what you can do to protect your pets.

Barnett says the best thing you can do for your animal is to be with them during the fire work show.

When you're inside you can pull the blinds to block the sudden lights.

He says you can also play a soothing sound to drown out the noise.

The main goal is to try to limit the amount of sound that will be coming into your house.

Barnett says pets get very anxious during fireworks because they simply don't understand.

<"you know they just don't get it, they don't understand why all of a suden in the middle of the night these big booms and flashing colors are going on and um, they just don't understand."

If you can't drown out the noise -- there are medications to help sooth your pet.

You can get your pet perscribed medication by a certified veterinarian.>
