Otters visit beach in the Philippines deserted during coronavirus lockdown

Footage shows two Asian small-clawed otters enjoying the clear waters of a beach in southern Philippines - appearing their for the first time in known memory.

Adzmie Herrera from the Turte Islands in Tawi-Tawi said the otters have visited their beaches on several occasions between May 15 to 22 during the coronavirus quarantine, which has prevented tourists for using the area.

He filmed the video on May 28.

He said: "Their favourite spot seems to be the Pulau Berhala island, which is sandwiched between two other islands in our place." It is believed to be the first time that these otter species were recorded present within the area.

The Turtle Islands is listed as a marine and wildlife sanctuary by the country's environment and natural resources department.
