Toned and trim: Brazilians prioritize exercise

As virus cases continue to rise in Brazil, some residents are determined to keep up with their workout routines even if it means a little adjustment.

Francis Maguire reports.

Whether they're outside in the exercise area of a closed beach, Or alone in an apartment, Many Brazilians have kept fit through recent months.

Though some Rio locals are happy to work out in public, Others are more reluctant to go outside as virus cases rise.

For those indoors, staying fit meant renting equipment to use in their homes.

That's what happened to Debora Stor.

She rides an exercise bike in the open window of her beachside apartment.

"I'm not going out in the street, I'm doing exercising at home because of my mother.

I don't want her to get the virus because she's in a risk group and also has some health problems, so I don't want to expose her to any risk." Some Rio locals have gotten creative with an isolated jog in a courtyard.

While others prefer a socially distanced bike ride along a beach.

Brazil's virus death toll ranks below only the U.S., Britain and Italy.
