Thanks for staying up with us tonight..

Mississippi will soon be reopen for business.

Governor tate reeves announces his new "safe return" order at today's briefing.

The safe return gives the green light to the remaining places that are still closed&such as museums, libraries and movie theaters.

As courtney ann jackson explains, it's the final stage of reopening.

Starting june 1st, there won't be any statewide closure of businesses.

"there are no perfect options but freedom with risks is better than a prolonged shutdown that threatens livelihoods and lives through government action."

The safe return order will also change the numbers for gatherings---like parties.

There are two different maximums depending on whether social distancing is possible.

Where that distancing is possible---you can have up to 50 people indoors and 100 outdoors.

But if there isn't a way to socially distance---only 20 indoors and 50 outdoors.

"this is one way going into the summer that we can try to thread the needle which is how do we get businesses to reopen?

How do we get kids' lives back to as close to normal as possible after literally three months of fighting covid-19 while at the same time doing it in such a way that we can mitigate the risks?

We are not going to eliminate the risks."

Youth sports starting back games is one example reeves gives.

"fairly large baseball park, baseball field, you can line all the way around the field fairly easily and get 70, 80, 90 people& 70 fans if you would want up around the fences without people becoming closer than 6 feet apart."

But again...these are guidelines and not one size fits all.

Weddings and funerals, in particular, are events that governor reeves warns can be problematic.

"they don't exactly lend themselves to social distancing.

Because typically when you have a funeral you have the family that stands at the front that meets and greets every visitor that comes to pay respects to the fallen."

This safe return order will take effect june 1 at 8 am and last through june 15th when the governor says they will re- evaluate.

A funeral in the wcbi viewing area is being used as an example of how quickly covid-19 can spread.

State health officer thomas dobbs talked about the funeral today and how one sick person led to nearly two dozen positive coronavirus cases.

"these are the scenarios that we're terrified of.

This is the same kind of stuff we saw at the beginning of the outbreak, and it's so important for us to honor these social distancing rules because they work."

An exact county where the funeral was held was not disclosed.

It's been two weeks since gyms in mississippi were allowed to reopen..

For the foreseeable future they have to follow strict guidelines.

Our bobby martinez talks with a gym owner and members about their new normal.

"i'm just glad that everything is getting back to normal."

Fitness factor member chris carson says adapting to the new gym rules has gone well so far..

Sot - chris carson - gym member "i think it has been made a lot easier for all of us due to the fact that beth and her whole staff have put so much attention into making sure that this whole place stays clean and safe for everyone that wants to come in and work out."

Fitness factor owner beth jeffers says members have been supportive of the rules put in place due to the coronavirus.

Sot - beth jeffers - owner, fitness factor "we provide all that germicide antibacterial wipes for them and after they get finished to clean their equipment again.

And you know people have taken their own personal responsibility obviously to wash their hands.

People have started to get used to the pattern and they're just so happy to be back i think."

Sot - chris carson "coming here and being able to be with all of our basically our families is such a helpful way to get over the whole situation."

The strict guidelines include enforcing social distancing rules.

Sot - beth jeffers "we had marked off 6 foot squares and actually they are even bigger.

And then we have closed off every other piece of cardio equipment and so far it has worked really well.

People are staying in the squares.

I think that one of the hardest thing though is after the class is over to keep your social distancing but we try to remind our members to do that."

Jeffers also adds that in recent weeks, she has seen an increase of members at her gym.

"just good to get them all together and watch them do things that they enjoy doing.

So we're excited about it, man, we're excited about our season.

So it's just a, it's something that we've been looking forward to and glad we get an opportunity to play because i know a lot of places aren't we know kids are excited to get back on the field, whether they make the team or not, they want to come work out and do something "it's a blessing, honestly, because some kids don't have the opportunity to, you know, get the work in.

Because even if you don't make the team, you're still getting opportunity to get the valuable work and couldn't imagine having a high school baseball season taken away from me like it has been from them.

So that was our goal, mainly this summer, just to give them a chance to get back outside and play a little baseball."

"this summer is a little different, because you know, a lot of allegiant teams that we normally play has already canceled their season.

So we've had to kind of get creative and find teams and other organizations, other legion teams that went independent.

And we've actually wound up we got a full schedule through june and july.

So we're thankful for that because normally we play anywhere between 30 and 40 games in the summer.

We were worried that you know, we may only have 20 this but now we've actually got the number back up where we think we're going to be about where we were in years past."

"we get out here to get to play.

It'd be great time and experience good look good looks at scouts and stuff.

We'll go to a few tournaments and compete and hopefully instill some baseball knowledge in them that they haven't had in the past."
