CENTERVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)-- The COVID-19 pandemic is causing an uptick in animal adoptions.

The Houston County Humane Society has seen a huge increase.

To adapt to CDC guidelines, the shelter changed its process.

"you know we're getting like 30 phone calls a day, and that's a lot when you're already up here volunteering from 9-1, and then you've got to go home and take care of your animals and answer the phone."

The houston county humane society has seen an uptick in the number of people adopting animals.

To adapt to c-d-c guidelines, the shelter changed the adoption process.

Director of houston county humane society, dee allison, says the shelter is limiting the number of people that can be inside.

"we have an appointment time and we have the people come in and view the dog, a meet and greet to see if that's going to work out.

Then, we come out and have the discussion about what's going to come down and then we do all the paperwork, then we go back and get their puppy or kitty and we take their picture c1 3 b13 and then they get to go home."
