Saturdays are for the Seniors: New Haven's Kade Keele

Welcome back..well as you know, saturdays are for the seniors here on fox 55..every weekend, we show some love to local senior athletes whose seasons were cut short or canceled because of the pandemic..and tonight, our petar hood honors new haven baseball standout kade keele..

?nat pop- bat hits ball?narr: standing at 6'3 and weighing in at 24o pounds, kade keele packs quite a punch.

And the big fella was a huge part of new haven's success last season.

As a junior, keele hit .446 to go along with a team-high three homers and 25 knocked in.

And he credits much of that success to hall of fame head coach dave bischoff..?nat pop- coach clapping?keele: "sophomore year, i was really young, thinking 'i really don't need bischoff.'

Junior year, i buckled down, said 'hey this guy knows his stuff.'

Everything he asked, i was there doing it.

I was just trying to get better every day, and obviously it showed."

Narr: yeah, not only did keele have a breakout season, he also helped lead his bulldogs to their first sectional championship since 2011.... keele: "it was a good feeling to win sectional, especially out of four years.

Many of my friends who play other sports around new haven and other schools that don't have the chance to experience the feeling of winning a sectional."?nat pop- team celerbating?keele: "knowing that that was our last win, finding that our in march this year, it hit pretty hard.

We expected to do it again this year, and win another one, and hopefully add another one to the trophy case."narr: keele's confident his dogs were going to get that done.

And although he's disappointed he didn't get to play his senior year, kade says he's still grateful to have worn the purple and gold..kade keele: "it was an honor, honestly.

It was great to being wearing the bulldog across my chest, and being under coach bischoff, as high-praised of coach as he is around the area and in the state, it was really an honor to play under him.

He's taught me a lot like i said earlier, and i'm not going to forget it."narr: memories and lessons that will last a life time.

That's what high school sports are all about.
