Whiskey town national recreation area are back open in time for memorial day weekend--- but park officials still want make sure you're following safety guidelines during this pandemic.

Action news now reporter karen alvarez joins us live, karen, what do we need to know before we head out?

While areas like brandy creek and oak bottom are now open---park rangers will be on duty making sure everything runs smoothly- take package: sot(josh hoines, superintendent for whiskeytown national recreation area): we're happy to be in position where we can begin reopening things back up.

Memorial day is really the beginning of our summer season here at whiskeytown.

With the arrival of memorial day weekend---park rangers at whisketown national recreation area are getting ready to welcome visitors--- sot(josh hoines): some of the changes that people will see that are different will be our campgrounds aren't open yet, it's going to be day use only at our beaches and day-use area around the park.

The trail heads are open.

Visitors like nancy garcia---- already enjoying some r and r at oak bottom---one of the recreation areas at whiskeytown--- sot(nancy garcia, oak botto): i'm excited to just relax and enjoy the sun.

Since everyone has been kind of cooped up i think it's just going to have kind of like this weight lifted theres' no pressure in getting out.

Sot(webb family, live in redding): finally getting out and being able to enjoy the lakes and it's just a beautiful day, ready for memorial weekend.

Standup: and while areas like brandy creek beach and oak bottom are open---the visitors center behind me will remain closed.

Sot(josh hoines): boat ramps are open so if you have your own boat you can come out and launch at whiskeycreek, oak bottom you can also launch at brandy creek marina so we're here lots of access.

Also open--- stores, restrooms, and picnic areas.

Areas like dry creek campground will be open for day use only.

Sot(josh hoines): my recommendation is to come maybe at different times, come in the morinng, come late in the afternnon cuz the middle of the day it really starts to get busy over here.

Even though park officials say they won't be enforcing social distancing---they stil* want visitors to be responsible and safe this memorial weekend.

Sot(josh hoines): i hope that people will be able to come out, enjoy themselves, and be able to continue reopening our society back up so that people wlil be careful and cautious and enjoy themselves.

We're here, we're open, and we're excited.

Now there will be extra handwashing and sanitizing stations for people who want to use them live at whiskeytown lake, karen alvarez, action news now, coverage you can count on.
