U.S. Health Secretary Alex Azar attacked China's response to the coronavirus pandemic on Tuesday (August 11) and said that if such an outbreak had emerged in Taiwan or the United States it could have been "snuffed out easily."

Scientists have revealed the closest images ever taken of the Sun, which show mini solar flares, called “campfires”, dotted across its surface.The images were captured last month by the Solar Orbiter, a European Space Agency probe designed and built in the UK, when it came within 47 million miles of the Sun’s surface.The close pass, known as a perihelion, put the spacecraft between the orbits of Venus and Mercury.Solar flares are brief eruptions of high-energy radiation from the Sun’s surface, which can cause radio and magnetic disturbances on the Earth.

Jaipur will witness a partial solar eclipse on Sunday, starting from 10:15 am till 1:44 pm, however, this time there will be no arrangement to show the eclipse in BM Birla Planetarium campus due to COVID-19 crisis, said Sandip Bhattacharya, Assistant Director, B.M. Birla Planetarium. Meanwhile, at 11:56 am 88 per cent of the sun will be covered. The solar eclipse will be visible in Gharsana in Bikaner, Suratgarh, Sirsa and Kurukshetra in Haryana and Dehradun and Joshimath etc. "Greatest phase of eclipse is Jaipur it will be witnessed just before 12 pm, partial solar eclipse will be witnessed here. This is the only solar eclipse visible from India this year. One should never try to watch the solar eclipse with bare eyes. Special eyeglasses or 14 number welding glasses can be used to view the eclipse. During the solar eclipse, the moon comes between the Earth and the Sun," said Bhattacharya. "The solar eclipse will be visible from 10:20 am to 1:48 pm with maximum visibility at 12:01 pm tomorrow in Delhi. Sun will be visible like a necklace. It will travel West to East. People can watch it via webcasts amid COVID19 lockdown," according to Nehru Memorial Museum and Library.
New satellite images from NASA show that Canada's St. Patrick Bay ice caps have completely disappeared. Researcher Mark Serreze said; "I can't say I was terribly surprised because we knew they were going, but it has happened really fast". In 2017 Serreze estimated the ice caps would be gone within five years. The dwindling ice caps were located on the Hazen Plateau of northeastern Ellesmere Island in Nunavut.
Researchers from Yangzhou University have shown that an uncovered toilet can eject infected aerosol droplets up to three feet, or one meter, in the air, according to a study published on June 16 in the journal Physics of Fluids.

Border Security Force (BSF) patrolled Chenab River along the International Border with Pakistan ahead of Independence Day. They intensified patrolling on well equipped boats. They were deployed to ensure safety at the International Border. One of the BSF soldiers said, "We are deployed here 24x7. I assure people of the country that they can live peacefully. Yahaan ek parinda bhi par nahi maar sakta hai."
A special flight under Vande Bharat Mission bought back 648 stranded Indians to Chennai airport from Australia, Dubai, Oman and Sri Lanka on July 18. The flight landed at Chennai Airport. All passengers were found asymptomatic and are being isolated after arrival.
