Second hepatitis A vaccination clinic in Rome

After an employee at LaRoma Restaurant in Rome tested positive for hepatitis A, Rome Memorial Hospital organized two clinics to administer vaccinations.

A vaccination clinic today.

Because of the high demand at tuesday's clinic, they had to switch locations... and they ran out early... again.

News channel 2's caitlin irla joins us live from m-v-c-c in rome to tell us what you should do if you couldn't get the vaccine.

Kristen, between today's clinic and tuesday's clinic... over 1,000 people have received the hepatitis a vaccine.

Today alone, approximately 700 people showed up to get vaccinated.

Today's clinic was scheduled for noon to 4...but they ran out just before three o'clock...but they also started early because people were lining up for the vaccine around 11.

There were 10 stations set up today to get people through quickly because of the overwhelming demand.

This comes after an employee from la roma's tested positive for hepatitis a.

That employee worked at both the rome location and the camden location.

The dates of possiblexposure at throme location were apl 27th anmay 4tf exposure at thcamden lotion were apr 30th andmay 1stt saysnyone who doe't recee the post expore vaccine within 1days shld monitor themselves for symptoms. "anytime there's an exposure you should really be alert to any symptoms or signs of hepatitis a which include things like nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, any yellowing or jaundice of the eyes or skin, those are all kind of some red flags or symptoms that you'd want to get checked out by your doctor."

Anyone who ate from the restaurant before may 1st will not be able to get the vaccine because they are past the 14 day window and the vaccine is only effective if you get it within 14 days of the exposure.

If you ate from the rome location on may 4th or the camden location on may 1st, and didn't get the vaccine, call your doctor or the health department.

And if you did get the vaccine, it's important to remember that in six months, you will need to get a second dose of the vaccine for long lasting protection.

Kristen back to you.
