To catch up with our own petar hood..

?nat pop- "doc emrick: across to gunnarson, a shot, he scores!

The blues win it in overtime!"?narr: for decades, doc emrick has been the voice behind hockey's most memorable moments..?nat pop- "doc emrick: and another shot... rebound, score!

It's ovechkin with his first goal of the game!"?doc emrick: "you do really pinch yourself to wonder at all of the wonderful things that you've been able to see, and the games you've been able to broadcast."narr: doc's seen and done it all during his illustrious 47-year broadcasting career.

22 stanley cup finals, eight olympic games, the first hockey announcer to win a national sports emmy, and the first media member to be inducted into the united states hockey hall of fame.

And it was all sparked right here in the summit city..

Emrick: "i think the love for the sport really comes in seeing it live the first time, in seeing it live really comes the sport the love for the sport really comes in seeing it live the first time, and that's what hooks you, and that's what hooked me, that night in december of 1960 when my parents took my brother and me to a game at the coliseum, and it wound up being a tie, an overtime tie between fort wayne and muskegon."narr: from that point on, emrick's love for the game, and his fort wayne komets, only grew.

And earlier this year, it all came full circle for doc when he was inducted into the k's hall of fame after being nominated by his mentor, bob chase..

Emrick: "all of the people that are in that hall of fame that the komets have, have either sweat or gotten stitches for the team, or they have worked tirelessly in business suits for the team.

And so i may very well be the first out-and-out person who has only had a connection with the team as a fan that is in their hall of fame, but i will try to do my best to represent the fan population of the komets well."narr: like all fans, doc misses the game right now.

And with the n-h-l season currently suspended, he's had to find other ways to keep his skills sharp.?nat pop- "dock emrick: four dogs, this is the ten meter sprint, and they're off!

And molly got a great lead!"?emrick: "it was kind of hilarious, not that the play-by-play was that skilled.

It's just that when you have four dogs all running as hard as they can and they don't go in a straight line, it's kind of fun to watch."

Narr: but as much as doc loves dog racing, he'd rather be broadcasting hockey.

And he's anxiously awaiting his next opportunity to do so..emrick: "whenever that next game is, it'll be a joyus occasion because we will have gotten back to doing what we do, and that is having this fast game that is a collision sport to share with people that have looked forward to it ever since the eleventh day of march, the last time that we had a game.

So it is something that i look forward to getting back to, whenever it winds up happening."narr: and i think we all look forward to hearing a call like this...?nat pop- "doc emrick: rebound off the boards, they score!!"?narr: ..whenever narr: ..whenever that day comes.
