Retired UK engineer creates PPE visor from household materials for less than 50p during COVID-19 lockdown

A retired engineer from Bicester, Oxfordshire has devised a method of creating a PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) visor from household materials that cost only 40 pence.

In the instructional video captured on April 21, David Thompson demonstrates the process with a piece of PVC (20p), pipe insulation (12p per visor), cable ties (1p) and rubber bands (5p).

An additional 5p is added for a plastic wallet to contain the materials bringing the total to 43 pence but is non-essential.

Thompson told Newsflare: "I am a retired engineer, having run my own company for 30 years in the plastic fabrication industry.

"I felt there was another way to manufacture face visors.

"The cost of this Protective Visor I have designed is around 40p, (50 cents).

"If you were to get a mini production line going then 30 seconds is a reasonable production time target." A severe shortage of PPE in the UK during the coronavirus pandemic has caused outrage towards the government.

NHS frontline staff are desperate for the gear they need to adequately prevent themselves from contracting coronavirus.
