British Prime Minister Boris Johnson faced a call on Wednesday for an inquiry into his government's handling of the coronavirus crisis after failing to fully explain partial death data, limited testing or the lack of equipment for hospitals.

Foreign minister Dominic Raab, standing in for Johnson as he recovers from COVID-19, said he would not commit to holding a public inquiry and reiterated that the government had been guided by scientific advice.

Wednesday's (April 22) parliament session upended 700 years of history when they questioned ministers by video link - an unprecedented and largely untested 'hybrid parliament' arrangement forced by the coronavirus outbreak.
