Taxi driver arrested after 'trying to murder tourist with scythe'

A taxi driver was arrested for attempted murder after he allegedly tried to kill a tourist with a scythe.

Ole Kristian Krogh, 31, from Denmark, called a cab to take him from a bar to his hotel in Krabi, southern Thailand on Tuesday (Februaru 12th) evening.

However, following a language miscommunication, the motorcycle taxi rider took him to the wrong resort.

Ole was dropped back at the original pick up spot outside the bar and ordered to pay the 200 THB (4.95 GBP) ride fee - which he refused.

The two men had a heated argument before the taxi driver allegedly grabbed a scythe used for farming and swung it at the terrified holidaymaker.

Ole raised his arms to protect himself but was injured from the blade.

He then paid up and walked back to his hotel, where the shocked staff immediately called the police.

Officers on Wednesday (February 12th) afternoon arrested the taxi rider Kiattisak Boonrabiab, 21, for attempted murder.

He reportedly confessed and said he was upset that the tourist refused to pay him following their misunderstanding He said: "I took him back to the pick up spot because I did not know where his hotel was and I wanted him to take another taxi.

"But he refused to pay the fee that we had agreed on the first place and I was so upset and tried to cut him with the scythe before the other people at the motorcycle stand intervened.'' Police said they found traces of drugs in the taxi driver's urine when he underwent tests.

Police Major General Apichart Limcharoen said: "He will certainly be charged with attempted murder but due to his urine analysis results, we will all consider adding more charges.''
