Two lionesses had seven cubs after mating with the same lion

Two lionesses that had seven cubs after mating with the same randy lion look on proudly as their offspring play together for the first time.

One cute five-month old lion was also pictured doing its best Simba impression as it took advantage of the unseasonally humid weather.

Five-year-old African lion Tsavo had flings with lionesses Scar and Amber at West Midlands Safari Park last spring.

Zookeepers had hoped at least one would become pregnant but they were stunned when both lionesses gave birth just weeks apart.

Ten-month-old Scar gave birth to three cubs on August 27 and on September 17 seven-year-old Amber had four more babies.

Scar's cubs have been called Hunter, Hercules and Hernatty (two males and a female), whilst Amber's are named Harabi, Hodge, Havoc and Hira (three males and a female).

On Thursday (23/1) the seven brothers and sisters ventured out for the first time with their proud mums. Over the next few weeks, keepers will introduce the cubs to the rest of the pride, including dad Tsavo and uncles Jilani and Jengo.

Tsavo, who arrived at the park with his two brothers in 2016, is now the proud father of seven cubs.

Head Keeper of Carnivores, Chris Hodgkins, said: "Once the cubs became a bit more active, we started to introduce them to the different areas of the lion house, whilst the rest of the pride were out on the safari.

"Once both sets of cubs had their vaccinations and health checks at eight weeks and 12 weeks old, we mixed the mothers and cubs together.

"The cubs instantly started playing together, chasing each other around and jumping all over both mums. "They have been inseparable ever since and we often find them all cosied up together or playing."
