Police are hunting a hit-and-run driver after a 57-year-old man was mowed down and killed near to a football stadium.

Emergency services rushed to Bescot Crescent in Walsall, West Mids., after a pedestrian was struck by a car at around 7pm on Tuesday evening (14/1).

The victim, who has not been named, was crossing the road near Walsall FC's Bescot Stadium train station car-park entrance when he was run over.

He suffered a serious head injury and was pronounced dead in hospital shortly afterwards.

His next of kin has been informed.

West Midlands Police are now appealing for witnesses after the driver of a white, silver or grey car sped away from the scene.

Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "We've already spoken to several witnesses who've given us important information.

"But looking at CCTV it's clear that many more people were walking near the scene at the time or drove past.

"It's likely they will have seen the collision or the offending vehicle so I need them to call us.

"We also know the car headed in the direction of Broadway West and overtook other cars after the crash.

"If any of these drivers have dash cam of the offending vehicle we'd like them to get in touch.

"I'd also ask for people to look out for a car matching the description that has front end damage and to contact us if they see such a car.

"We're grateful for all information passed to us so please contact us via the website or by calling 101."
