Extinction Rebellion set its sights on a new target on Tuesday (October 15) - the British Transport Ministry.

And defying police calls to halt all demonstrations in the capital -announced on Monday (October 14) night.

Climate change activists, including one of XR's founders, focused their attentions on the building in central London to protest against a high-speed rail project known as HS2.

The group said the project, aimed at improving links from London to central and northern England would damage or destroy over 100 ancient woodlands.

HS2 is currently billions of pounds over budget and behind schedule.

A spokesman for the transport ministry declined immediate comment on the action.

Protests have so far targeted government and financial buildings with nearly 1500 people arrested.

Extinction Rebellion uses civil disobedience to highlight the risks posed by climate change and the accelerating loss of plant and animal species.

On Monday protesters who had glued themselves to companies, including Barclays and Blackrock, were removed by officers.

Police said in a statement that "any assembly linked to the Extinction Rebellion 'Autumn Uprising' must now cease".

In response to the move, XR have said "We urge the government and the authorities to join us in doing the same.

We cannot do it alone."
