A plane comes crashing down at the coeur d alene airport.
Now the pilot is in the hospital with serious injuries..
Kyle simchuk was at the scene - learning more about what happened the pilot is being identified as 51 year old thomas stotts of spokane.
The kootenai county sheriff's office says he was taking off in an ultralight aircraft when he crashed into a field off the first responders found stotts pinned underneath the aircraft.
It took fire crews about five minutes to extricate him, they also noticed fuel leaking and took steps to make sure the ultralight didn't catch fire.
Northern lakes fire tells us they train at the coeur d'alene airport each year and while crashes are incredibly rare, first responders are prepared for them.
