A local woman decided she wanted to be a mentor to a child and is getting ready to take on that role.fox 55's alida donnelly talks to her about her decision and what she's anticipating in this week's start something big.
Meet tahnea she wanted to become a big sister so she could impact a child's life.
Tahnea, big sister, "working here i've seen the different growths in different children and i wanted to be that person who said hey i made a change in a person's life.
So i asked about the site based program, which is a program inside ours schools and got a little feedback and that's how i got started."she recently got matched with her little and hasn't gotten to meet her yet.
Tahnea, big sister, "the first activity will be going to the school and doing like a little get to know you game.
So it will be during their lunch recess and it will just be a little get to know you.
I have some questions and then we'll just go back and forth and we'll get to get to know each other for the first meeting."
Even though she has a busy schedule, she still wants to go out of her way to help a child.
Tahnea, big sister, "showing that a child regardless of where they need a mentor so being inside the school with my busy work schedule, i can't give them a one on one but i can give them 30 minutes of my day a week just to give them that ear."
She thinks being a big sister will help her in many ways.
