Serena Williams was focused and ready as she entered Flushing Meadows to roars of applause from the stadium crowd.

The 37-year-old American tennis idol was meeting 32-year-old Russian tennis star, Maria Sharapova.

According to CNN, Sharapova and Williams had surprisingly never faced each other at Flushing Meadows.

Eighth-seeded Serena Williams won 6-1, 6-1 in less than an hour, improving her record against Sharapova to 20-2.
