On August 20, financial negotiations between Disney and
Sony Pictures over the "Spider-Man" franchise hit a standstill.
As a result, Kevin Feige was announced to have
left his role as a producer in the movie series,
effectively severing Marvel's partnership with Sony.
Marvel actor Jeremey Renner, who's character
fought alongside Spider-Man in the "Avengers"
series, commented on the situation soon after.
Hey @sonypictures we want Spider-Man back
to @therealstanlee and @marvel please, thank
you #congrats #spidermanrocks, Jeremy Renner, via Instagram.
Ryan Reynolds took a more lighthearted
approach, replying to a fan's request to
see a Spider-Man and Deadpool movie.
You can…But you can only see it in my heart, Ryan Reynolds, via Twitter.
As of now, Spider-Man will no longer appear in the
Marvel Cinematic Universe, as his ability to appear in
Disney's films was reliant upon the agreement with Sony.
It is unclear whether a new deal will be made,
although Sony said in a statement that they
"hope this might change in the future."
