So as it stands I fully expect him to be fit and ready to play tomorrow." 2.
WHITE FLASH 3.
(SOUNDBITE) (English) JOE ROOT, ENGLAND CAPTAIN, SAYING: "He (Archer) obviously just loved everything about last week, you could see that in the conversations with him, say just have a three over spell there, give everything, and then two overs in he's like 'I want to bowl another four overs or whatever'.
"He just wants to get out there and be a part of it and make things happen, it's a very impressive trait for a young man to have." 4.
WHITE FLASH 5.
So he is disappointed not to be playing but he, along with the rest of our group, understand why he isn't.
"In terms of his next week I'm not too sure, I think he'll probably just lightly build up as the week goes on and he'll be continually monitored.
If he keeps progressing well I guess he starts batting straight away and full training with a view to him playing I suppose as quickly as possible if everything goes well.
But as we've said there's a strong medical process that Steve's got to tick a lot of boxes to make sure he's ready to go and our medical staff are the comfortable with him playing." STORY: England's Ollie Pope has been added to their squad as cover for fellow batsman Jason Roy ahead of the third Ashes test against Australia starting at Headingley on Thursday (August 22).
Roy was struck on the neck during training on Tuesday and although the 29-year-old passed required concussion protocols on Wednesday, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has decided to have an extra option at the top of the order.
Pope has played only two tests in his career -- both against India last year -- scoring 54 runs in three innings before picking up a shoulder injury that required surgery.
He scored an unbeaten 221 off 337 balls in the County Championship clash against Hampshire at The Oval on Wednesday before heading to Leeds.
Australia batsman Steve Smith was ruled out of the third test due to the concussion he suffered at Lord's after being hit by a ball from Jofra Archer in the drawn second test.
The visitors lead the series 1-0 having won the first test by 251 runs.
