NCA uncovers almost 400 kilograms of heroin hidden in bathrobes

Approximately 398 kilograms of heroin have been uncovered in one of the UK's largest ever seizures of the drug, after National Crime Agency (NCA) intelligence identified a container vessel on its way to Antwerp, Belgium.

It was stopped at Felixstowe on August 1 and the following day Border Force officers and the NCA removed a container in which approximately 398 kilograms of heroin was concealed within a towels and bathrobes.

The drugs would be worth at least £9m to organised criminals selling the whole consignment at wholesale, and at least £40m at street level in the UK and other European countries.

After the heroin was removed, the container continued its journey - under police surveillance - and Dutch Police arrested two people when it was taken to Rotterdam.

The NCA simultaneously arrested a man from Bromsgrove who is currently being questioned by NCA officers.
