Democratic candidates underscore policy agendas in post-debate spin room

On the first night of back-to-back debates, Democrats on Tuesday (July 30) were united in stressing the urgency of defeating Republican President Donald Trump in the November 2020 election.

Rough cut (no reporter narration)

But they delivered bruising critiques of their party rivals' positions as detailed policy disagreements dominated the nearly three-hour event.

After the debate, the candidates and their surrogates spoke to reporters in a "spin room" emphasizing strategies and proposals to separate them from the large democratic field.

They addressed issues of immigration, health care, climate change as well as current polls.

Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez said he was impressed by the depth of the field and the discussions underway.
