Why This Arizona Teacher Got The Lightest Sentence For Sleeping With A 13-Year-Old

An Arizona teacher was sentenced Friday to 20 years behind bars for having sex with a 13-year-old student.

According to Newser, Zamora expressed remorse for crime in the Maricopa County courtroom.

However, in a statement read by her attorney, Zamora said she felt she had been 'treated unfairly' by the state.

Nevertheless, Newser reports Zamora received the lightest possible punishment.

Psychological evaluations showed Zamora was depressed and anxious, but was not fundamentally attracted to children.
