(SOUNDBITE) (English) KANE WILLIAMSON, NEW ZEALAND CAPTAIN, SAYING: "Yeah, obviously, a brilliant fighting effort from our guys on what was another tough surface and sort of required that mentality and it was really important that we're prepared to do that and stay in the game for a long time.
We all know the class side that India are.
"At the halfway stage, we sort of wanted 240, 250 and we knew we would be competitive if we got that because the surface played the way it did.
But then to have to start with the ball that we had was an outstanding way to try and kick things off and try and get into a position of strength and I thought the way the bowlers and the fielders operated throughout on a big field, on a surface which they had to adapt differently again, was a great effort." 2.
WHITE FLASH 3.
(SOUNDBITE) (English) KANE WILLIAMSON, NEW ZEALAND CAPTAIN, SAYING: "You come to this tournament where anybody can beat anybody.
We saw a number of results that perhaps were sides ranked lower beat sides ranked higher, but I think everybody knew that anybody can beat anybody.
So when that is the nature of it, it seems unlikely to win every game but at the same time you want to try and go out and play the cricket that you want to play for a long period of time and rely on that to perhaps get you to a finals stage which we did.
"We came through in the fourth position, which is fine.
And then we put out a much-improved performance in the semifinal and it is important for us to try and make small improvements moving into our next match." STORY: Captain Kane Williamson hailed his pace attack after a devastating opening 10 overs sent New Zealand into their second straight World Cup final with a surprise 18-run win over India at Old Trafford on Wednesday (July 10).
After New Zealand set them a modest target of 240 to win, India were reduced to 24-4 with Rohit Sharma, skipper Virat Kohli and KL Rahul dismissed for a single run each as the Black Caps' opening attack delivered in style.
Matt Henry did the damage with three of the early wickets while left-armer Trent Boult also bowled superbly, keeping the pressure and picking up the vital wicket of India skipper Kohli.
Boult later removing dangerman Ravindra Jadeja, whose 77 off 59 balls had threatened to thwart the Kiwis.
Two of the key moments in the game were bits of brilliance in the field -- Jimmy Neesham's astonishing left-handed catch to dismiss Dinesh Karthik for the fourth wicket and a direct hit from Martin Guptill running out MS Dhoni to fatally wound India's late run chase.
The Kiwis had lost their last three games in the group stage, which was topped by India, who themselves suffered only one defeat.
A spirited team performance by Delhi Capitals (DC) enabled handed them their first-ever final spot in the Indian Premier League (IPL) after defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 17-run in Qualifier 2 at Sheikh Zayed Stadium on November 08. "Delhi Capitals played very well today and put good totals on the board. We managed to build a few partnerships in the middle order. Although, we are not in the finals but we played well from last 3 weeks", said SRH's Kane Williamson while addressing a post match press conference. Delhi Capitals will face Mumbai Indians (MI) in the final, that'll be played on 10th Nov, at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on October 13. Williamson's fifty went into vain as SRH hurtled to a 20-run defeat. SRH coach Trevor Bayliss over team's defeat said, "We have got some good young players, we are trying to get some experienced in the middle order. We have done well in the last few years scoring runs at the top in the order. It's probably more difficult battling conditions here in Dubai than back home." He further said, "Obviously, Shahbaz Nadeem coming in and played his first game and did pretty well. Sandeep Sharma is getting his confidence. Kane Williamson keeps scoring runs and is very consistent. We expect the runs going forward and hoping good score on the board." Irrespective of the loss, SRH remained on the fifth position in the points table.

On opening batsman Rohit Sharma's current status regarding his injury, Indian cricket team skipper Virat Kohli on November 26 said that his status will be further assessed on December 11. "Well, before we had the selection meeting in Dubai, we got a mail two days before which said that Rohit is unavailable for selection because of the injury he picked up during the IPL. It mentioned a two-week rest and rehab period, and it said that the pros and cons of the injury were explained to Rohit and he understood that. It was the information we got by mail but after that, he played in the IPL. We all thought that he would be on the flight to Australia which he wasn't and we had no information whatsoever on the reason behind him not flying to Australia," said Kohli during the virtual press conference. "After that, the only information we have received on mail is that he is at NCA and he will be further assessed on December 11. So from the time the selection meeting happened and the IPL ended and now when this mail came about his assessment, there has been lack of clarity, we have been playing the waiting game on this issue and this is not ideal at all," he added.
Pacer S Sreesanth is set to make his comeback on the cricket field after a seven-year long ban. The pacer will return to competitive cricket with a local T20 tournament. The President's Cup T20 tournament is being organised by Kerala Cricket Association. Sreesanth features in the list of players for the T20 event in Alappuzha. On his new role, Haroon Lorgat said, "I am very grateful. It's very different to what I have done before - having been involved in long form cricket, in national and international federations. I witnessed T10 cricket for the first time last year and was amazed by its appeal and potential for advancement. Once upon a time, we may have thought 10 overs of an innings was just not cricket but the kind of skills, strategies adopted by coaches and teams when I saw matches last year, said to me there is a future here. It can be used as a development tool, as entertainment. It lasts 90 minutes - duration of football matches. In today's world, this format lends itself to something different. I am confident it will be embraced way beyond UAE." The fourth edition of the Abu Dhabi T10 League will take place from January 28 to February 6 next year.
Indian cricket team skipper Virat Kohli on November 26 said that there is uncertainty about whether Rohit Sharma and Ishant Sharma would be able to make it to Australia series owing to their injuries. Someone like Saha who also got injured during IPL is here with us and he is doing rehab here. He is on the right path to be fit in time to play the first Test. The same is the case with Rohit and Ishant as well, it would have given them a chance to get themselves fit and be available for the Test series." "Right now, there is so much uncertainty about whether they would be able to make it at all or not. It definitely would have been very helpful if they were here and doing the rehab here just like Saha is," said Kohli during the virtual press conference.

Chennai Super Kings defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by six wickets in a last ball thriller match on October 29 at the Dubai International Stadium. After facing seven-wicket defeat in the match against Rajasthan Royals, qualifying for playoffs has become difficult for the Chennai Super Kings. Batting first, CSK posted a total of 125/5 in the allotted twenty overs. Ravindra Jadeja scored the maximum for CSK as he played an unbeaten knock of 35 runs. Chennai Super Kings Head coach, Stephen Fleming said that both factors including the conditions and disciplined bowling performance by opposition played a role in the defeat. Fleming said, "It was a little bit slow in the start but we got good bowl. It was just a difficult inning to get underway with. We hang in there but obviously not enough. We lost wickets, so we tried to stay positive and create pressure on the run rate but we just lost wickets throughout. We struggled to get any momentum and put them under enough pressure. They bowled well and we couldn't get them away."
