Jury Begins Deliberations In Trial Of Accused New York Cult Founder

According to a report by Reuters, on Wednesday, jurors began deliberating the fate of Keith Raniere, the New York man accused of running a cult-like group in which women were kept on starvation diets, branded with his initials and ordered to have sex.

The 58 year-old Raniere has been on trial in Brooklyn federal court for over six weeks on charges that include racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking and possession of child pornography.

Raniere, who has pleaded not guilty on all charges, reportedly faces a potential life sentence if convicted.

Reuters reports that Raniere is the founder of Nxivm, a purported self-improvement organization based in upstate New York.
