Fallout From Falou Comments Continue as Saracens' Billy Vunipola Booed Before Champions Cup Final
Saracens and England number 8 Billy Vunipola was booed as he arrived at St James’ Park for the Champions Cup final against Leinster on May 12, as he continued to feel the heat for his defense of comments made by controversial rugby star Israel Folau.
Australian rugby player Israel Folau was found guilty of a “high level breach” of Rugby Australia’s player code of conduct after he said “hell awaits” gay people in an April 10 Instagram post.
Vunipola expressed support for Folau in a separate Instagram post on April 12.
“He’s saying how we live our lives needs to be closer to how God intended them to be.
Man was made for woman to procreate that was the goal no?”, Vunipola wrote.
Vunipola was issued with a formal warning by the Rugby Football Union for the controversial comments.
Footage posted to Twitter by reporter Seán McMahon shows Vunipola being booed as he arrives at St James’ Park before the Champions Cup final.
Saracens defeated Leinster 20-10.
