Irish Foreign Minister Says Replacing Backstop Is Wishful Thinking

According to Reuters, Brexit negotiators tried alternatives to a backstop insurance policy along the Irish border, but none of them held up to scrutiny.

Irish Foreign Minister Simon Coveney, said alternatives were negotiated for two years, but they ultimately failed.

But now, British Prime Minister Theresa May is advocating to negotiate alternatives that have already been tested, but failed, in the wake of her Brexit deal's defeat in parliament.
