First chance tonight to hear phone recordings between county commissioner tim boyd and brent lambert.
Lambert says boyd threatened him during those conversations.
The east ridge mayor just released those recordings.
News 12's angela moryan joins us live now to tell us exactly what was said in these phone calls.
John and emily, we sat through about 28 minutes of recordings earlier today -- the same recordings a grand jury used to indict the current county commissioner for extortion last week.
Lambert is running against boyd for the seat... and he says he's never received threats of this magnitude.
Boyd: i would prefer you to just drop out of the race and everything goes away.
That's the voice of current hamilton county commissioner tim boyd, on the phone with his opponent, east ridge mayor brent lambert.
Lambert recorded three seperate phone calls that led to boyd's arrest for criminal extortion last week.
Tennessee and georgia are both one-party consent states, meaning only one person needs to know if a phone conversation is being recorded.
Lambert: "he is trying to make an issue out of he didn't consent to being recorded.
Well, i didn't consent to being extorted."
Boyd continues to deny that he threatened lambert.
Reporter: did you threaten mr. lambert to leave the race?
But lambert's recordings beg to differ.
Boyd: brent, that's the bottom line.
If you stay in the race, it's not going to be pretty.
Throughout the calls, boyd references negative information his team has on lambert.
Boyd: it's very bad in the public's eyes.
Now did you break any laws?
But it's the timing when you connect all the dots and they put the story together, it leaves the perception that brent lambert is an extremely unethical business man.
Boyd never goes into detail.
Lambert: "there is no conspiracy.
There's nothing other than mr. boyd attempting to bully me out of the race and it didn't work."
But boyd is not worried the arrest will damage his campaign.
Boyd: i look forward to seeing how much of the margin i win by.
We asked lambert what he thinks this damning information is... he says boyd must be referencing the exit 1 development -- where he legally obtained funds that he used to repay campaign loans.
