95% of the World Could be Breathing Unsafe Air

Troubling news for those who were optimistic about the state of air pollution around the world.

??According to new research by the Health Effects Institute, 95% of the world’s population may be breathing unsafe air.??The Guardian reports that the study has used newly available satellite data to determine that much of the world-??is breathing air with particulate matter above that which the World Health Organization deems safe.

??And the separation between the highest and lowest polluted areas in the world, is expanding.According to the vice president of The Health Effects Institute, while many developing countries have begun efforts to curb air pollution-Others have lagged behind, sacrificing air quality for economic growth.??But wealthier countries aren’t safe either.??Diesel fuel is still the main source of air pollution in the UK.??ANd experts now believe that air pollution in general is the number 4 leading cause of death world-wide- ??Contributing to respiratory illnesses, heart attacks and even strokes.

??A study published in the Lancet last year reports that 16% of ALL deaths in 2015 were linked to pollution.
