Trump says U.S. troops leaving Syria not immediately returning home
Monday, 21 October 2019 U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday said he did not want to leave any American troops in Syria, but that U.S. forces leaving the country now would deploy elsewhere before returning to the United States.
U.S. troops crossed into Iraq early on Monday, part of a withdrawal from northeastern Syria ordered by President Donald Trump that opened the way for Turkish troops to launch an offensive against Kurdish fighters in the area. Francesca Lynagh reports.
