China says U.S. 'maliciously hyping up' South China Sea issue
Tuesday, 27 August 2019 China accused the United States on Tuesday of "maliciously hyping up" the South China Sea situation and making warrantless criticism, after the Pentagon said China was carrying out "coercive interference" in waters claimed by Vietnam.
A U.S. Navy destroyer sailed near islands claimed by China in the South China Sea on Wednesday, the U.S. military said, a move likely to anger Beijing at a time of rising tensions between the world's two largest economies. Roger Fortuna reports.
