We’re well into fall now, and as ever, it’s more than time to take a look at some of the most interesting and important events which have occurred throughout Octobers across the years. For many people, the clocks will be going back soon enough – an appropriate time, therefore, for us to push them back to the limit with another trip down memory lane!

October 22nd, 1897 – Need a New Motor?
Believe it or not, the world’s first car dealership has roots back in Blighty – as on this day over 120 years ago, London played host to the first automobile sales center of any kind.

October 23rd, 2015 – Adele Releases a Record-Breaking Single
In the age of digital downloads, Adele claimed her crown as queen – as her single ‘Hello’ was released three years ago today. It went on to oversee more than a million downloads in its first week – a new record.

October 24th, 1857 – Soccer Finds its Roots

October 26th, 1863 – The Birth of the Red Cross
The Red Cross provides incredible worthwhile support to hundreds of thousands – and it all dates back to 1863, with an international conference taking place in Geneva, Switzerland – looking closely at battlefield medical care.

October 27th, 1904 – The NY Subway Opens
Or, at least the first section of it, anyway! Lower Manhattan to Broadway Harlem became the first route to be opened up to the New York public, at the cost of just one nickel per trip. How times have changed!

October 28th, 1886 – Lady Liberty Unveiled
More important US news – from 18 years prior – as then-President Grover Cleveland unveiled the iconic Statue of Liberty to New York. It was also celebrated by the first-ever ticker tape parade!
