The Week in News: October 6th - October 12thby 👨‍💻 Graham Pierrepoint

The world keeps on turning, and the presses keep on printing. What do we know this week that we didn’t a week ago? What’s new in politics, science, and otherwise? Here’s our weekly briefing to keep you up to date on the latest movements from around the globe.

Another Trump Ally Resigns
Nikki Haley, UN Ambassador under US President Donald Trump, has become the latest name from the White House staff to voluntarily resign from her position. The move comes as news circulates over the genuine relationship between Chief of Staff John Kelly and Trump himself – though the President, according to soundbites, has already considered earmarking the position of ambassador for his daughter Ivanka. Facebook Reports Data Breach for 30 Million Users
Up to 30 million Facebook users will receive security notifications in the coming days with regard to a breach which reportedly saw sensitive details made available to hackers thanks to an exploit in Facebook’s code. It’s the latest in a considerable line of media-unfriendly mishaps for the firm, in a year where Mark Zuckerberg et al have had to react quickly to fallout over data loss and privacy concerns.

Venom Defies Critics
Venom – the latest Marvel movie to hit the big screen, albeit not one that’s part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe – has been lambasted by critics, but appears to be having the last laugh as far as ticket sales are concerned. It’s thought that the movie has overseen the biggest October opening weekend in domestic history, and that it’s already clawed over $200 million worldwide, doubling its production budget. Is it safe to say we’re getting a sequel?

Gunn Swaps Sides
One man who probably isn’t too concerned about Marvel right now is James Gunn, the writer-director of the hugely popular Guardians of the Galaxy series – who, after having been fired by Disney with regard to historic tweets he made that failed to fall in line with the brand’s family-friendly image, is reportedly set to take on the supposed sequel to Suicide Squad – if true, this is very big news indeed.
