The Week in News: March 31st - April 6thby

Whether or not you fell victim to one of this year’s brilliant online April Fool’s pranks or if you’ve simply been too busy finishing off Easter eggs to pay attention to what’s been going on in the world, One News Page is here to give you a brief rundown of some of the week’s biggest – and most bizarre – events. You may have missed one or two of these – so tuck into our weekly digest and get yourself refreshed!

Trump Denies Knowledge of Paying Stormy Daniels
Recent developments in the Donald Trump / Stormy Daniels saga appear to suggest that the President has no knowledge of having paid the porn actress to keep quiet about their alleged affair – having deflected questions to his attorney. It’s a development which could make things interesting for the other side of the debate at least.

Conor McGregor Charged with Assault
Popular UFC fighter Conor McGregor has this week been charged with assault by the NYPD after video footage emerged of the star appearing to vandalise a bus containing at least one of his professional rivals. Having turned himself into police after a warrant was obtained, UFC have officially stated that they are ‘currently working on the consequences that will follow’. It’s a very public incident which may have severe repercussions all round for one of the brand’s biggest names.

A Quiet Place is Certified ‘Fresh’
Following in the footsteps of last year’s Get Out (which scooped up Oscar nominations and a win for director Jordan Peele), John Krasinski’s breakout direction of a horror movie with a difference – A Quiet Place - appears to be lighting up the critical boards. The film, which centers around silence, rose to 100% in approval on Rotten Tomatoes early in the week – resting at a hugely credible 97% going into the weekend. Have horror movies finally found their critical niche again?

Were You Fooled?
It’s been very hard this year not to have been taken in by some of the major pranks that have landed on our digital doorstep this April Fools’ Day. Google Maps led with allowing you to find Waldo, Coca-Cola announced hipster-appeasing flavors with new Avocado and Charcoal, T-Mobile launched a ‘smartshoephone’ (the first of its kind) – it’s hard to spot jokes from reality these days! Elon Musk announced that Tesla had gone bankrupt, Duolingo launched their own line of craft beers, Netflix acquired full ownership of Seth Rogen (not just his projects), and Phone Arena announced the launch of an iPhone X home button add-on – simply plug into the lightning port to get your beloved home button back! All of these jokes were hugely inventive – and very entertaining!
