A friend has a saying: Northern Ireland has Tories to the left of it and Tories to the right. In Britain, the Conservative Party rules the roost. In the south, politics are dominated by Fine Gael and Fianna Fail. They come from different places, were shaped by different events, but the three parties belong to the centre-right.
