Regardless of Brexit – Boris Wants a Plane

Regardless of Brexit – Boris Wants a Planeby 👨‍💻 Graham Pierrepoint

It’s hard to believe that we are well under a year until the United Kingdom hopes to be leaving the European Union – and amid fits, starts, and various amounts of positive and negative press, Prime Minister Theresa May appears to be continuing to press on with arranging for the UK to leave the EU as smoothly as possible. However, she has been defeated on a number of issues in the Houses of Parliament – which means that her initial desired mandate may not go through as she may have hoped. One of the initial figureheads in bringing Brexit to the fore in the first place, Foreign Minister Boris Johnson, has remained somewhat removed from proceedings despite having spearheaded the initial ‘leave’ campaign – and, according to reports following discussions with members of the press, Johnson wouldn’t say no to having the services of a private jet, having been asked whether or not he would want a ‘Brexit plane’.

Johnson’s role requires him to travel around the world on a regular basis, and while access to the RAF Voyager unit is shared between cabinet members and the Royal Family, the minister isn’t completely against having some form of private jet set up so that he can continue to jet set with ease for diplomatic means – providing that ‘exorbitant’ costs aren’t to be involved. Johnson acknowledged the Voyager, stating that it ‘never seems to be available’ – and that he found the grey coloring of the plane to be rather drab. “What I will say about the Voyager – I think it’s great, but it seems to be very difficult to get a hold of,” he mused.

“The taxpayers won’t want us to have some luxurious new plane, but I certainly think it’s striking that we don’t seem to have access to such a thing at the moment,” Johnson stated. “If there’s a way of doing it that is not exorbitantly expensive, then yes – I think we probably do need something.”

So there we have it – once Brexit is over and done with, will Mrs May furnish Boris with a private jet so that he can undertake Foreign Secretary duties quicker and easier than ever before? Who’s to say – but quite where the cash will come from – providing it isn’t ‘exorbitant’ – is another matter entirely. What will the public have to say on the matter – is another important question!
