They have cats, dogs and small furry animals such as rabbits and guinea pigs in their care, and they work to match the animals with new families to find their forever homes. Alongside their rehoming centre, CDCH run twice-weekly low cost veterinary clinics in Stroud for those receiving means tested benefits, ensuring that no animals suffer due to the costs of treatment. While CDCH are affiliated with the RSPCA, they are in fact an independent charity that has to rely on donations and fundraising to keep their centres running. Any funds raised within the community stay directly with the charity, ensuring the most vulnerable animals in Gloucestershire are supported.
Second in the line-up, is The Down’s Syndrome Association (DSA). The charity is the largest Down's syndrome interest membership organisation in the UK, supporting individuals with the condition and their families. They provide information, advocacy and support to anyone who has an interest in Down's syndrome and have done so for over 50 years. In addition to providing information on all aspects of the condition, the DSA runs a number of projects to support people with Down's syndrome in leading full, rewarding lives. This includes their DSActive project, which provides sport and exercise opportunities for people with the condition; and their WorkFit project, which brings employers and jobseekers together, training employers on how to support workers with Down's syndrome and providing employment opportunities for individuals with the condition.
The third and final charity in the March line-up is Youth Action Wiltshire, the youth based arm of Wiltshire based charity Community First. Through a number of different projects, Youth Action Wiltshire supports thousands of young people in the community, including young carers, and those not in education, employment or training. Their projects range from activity programmes and one-to-one support for young people who face challenges in their lives, to providing volunteering opportunities and supporting Wiltshire's youth clubs. As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, many young people facing challenges found their circumstances made even more difficult for a number of reasons, such as anxiety, isolation and and a strain on relationships at home.
