Tom Hanks: Toy Story 4 Ending 'A Moment in History'by 👨‍💻 Graham Pierrepoint

It’s hard to believe, but it has already been eight years since Toy Story 3 was released – and Pixar’s flagship animated film, the very first Toy Story, celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2020. All the more fitting, then, that a further instalment in the popular series is on the way very soon indeed. Toy Story 4 is slated to arrive at cinemas domestically in the US as of summer 2019, meaning we have less than a year to look forward to seeing Woody, Buzz and the talkative toys once again. According to star Tom Hanks, who has voiced cowboy Woody since the first instalment, the final scenes of the latest movie will prove to be a benchmark in cinematic history.

Speaking to BBC Radio 2 this week, Hanks revealed that the final scenes of the movie, which are also the final ones the star recorded, are ones to remember. “The way you record Toy Story, you’re in a room with the team that has created it – when I went in for my last day of recording, I wanted to have my back to them, because usually, you’re facing him so he can look right up and you can talk about it,” he recounted to presenter Chris Evans, according to The Independent. “But I didn’t want to see them and pretend they couldn’t see me.”

“When I realized what they were going for, I realized, ‘Oh – this is a moment in history.” Hanks’ words somewhat echo a mood eluded to by co-star Tim Allen – who voices Buzz Lightyear – recently. Allen advised that he found the final scene of Toy Story 4 particularly emotional, and that it was ‘hard to get through’ as a result of a ‘big’ ending he wasn’t expecting.

In any case, it will need to go some way to replicate the emotions may long-time Toy Story fans experienced at the end of the third movie, which was something of a rollercoaster. It was, too, what many assumed to be the finale to the series – however, nine years on, that’s hardly the case. Pixar has recently hit its stride again with sequels and original movies, with both Incredibles 2 and Coco having pulled in strong critic reviews as well as sizeable box office interest. Will they strike gold yet again with Toy Story 4? Signs are certainly looking good!
