Nintendo Unleash a Stack of New Titlesby 👨‍💻 Adam Yardley

Nintendo are undoubtedly at the peak of their game right now – quite literally – and while Sony and Microsoft may well have the gaming monopoly down pat in other ways, the family-friendly Japanese firm has recently unleashed tons of upcoming titles and surprises for ardent players to tuck into over the next few months. Their recent Nintendo Direct, a video showcase of projects and games yet to come, is thought to be the last of the year – but fans really didn’t come up short given what’s been unveiled.

Those awaiting the upcoming Smash Bros Ultimate didn’t get much more in the way of a big reveal this time around, which means we may well get more of a look-in in months to come – but Animal Crossing mainstay Isabelle has at least been named as a new fighter in the roster. Animal Crossing itself was teased to return to the Switch for 2019, putting some fans into a frenzy as to what could possibly be coming next.

Nintendo also unveiled a raft of Final Fantasy games getting ported to the console, including instalments 7, 9, 10 and 12 – a very big deal for RPG fans, particularly as 7 is still very much regarded as the pinnacle of the franchise. Big surprises abound too in the form of Luigi’s Mansion 3, following on from the previous instalment on 3DS – as Mario’s brother will take to spook-hunting on home consoles once again for the first time in almost 20 years. Mario himself will team up with his brother again for an upgrade of New Super Mario Bros U, a Deluxe edition, which will reach consoles this coming January.

Twenty classic NES games have also been announced for the launch of Nintendo Switch Online, too – which arrives this month. Players can now enjoy the likes of Donkey Kong, Super Mario Bros, The Legend of Zelda and many more as part of a monthly or annual subscription. It’s also thought that these games will also be bolstered by the introduction of online play, both co-operative and competitive.

Nintendo certainly has plenty to shout about over the next few months, and it seems that the Switch is continuing to put the disappointing Wii U console behind it – with these new titles set for future release and with Smash Bros Ultimate just around the corner, it’s a fantastic time for Nintendo fans!
