Nintendo Fan? You'll Need to Pay for Online Services by the End of Septemberby 👨‍💻 Adam Yardley

Nintendo’s free online model has been something of a selling point for many fans over the years, though as the brand has grown, it has introduced more and more options and flexibility for online play. You can now easily jump into games such as Fortnite and Splatoon 2 against others with only so much as a working internet connection – but Switch owners are set to face a slight overhaul to their online standards soon which have been hotly debated between fans – despite there being a few perks thrown into the bargain.

Nintendo is set to bring in a whole new premium service for Switch console online play and access as of September 19th, and while it may be free for all users to enjoy for up to a week, after that, you will be required to pay a fee to play games online and to access certain services.

The new service will reportedly arrive with a number of classic NES titles from the 1980s and 1990s for players to enjoy, in a format that has been touted as a ‘Netflix for games’. The service will also allow players to use cloud-saving for certain games, though not all titles – some big names included – may not be applicable. Both the Civilization and Final Fantasy series are set to arrive on the Switch in due course. It’s also been revealed that Mario’s green dinosaur buddy, Yoshi, will be returning in his latest adventure next year as part of the intriguingly-titled Yoshi’s Crafted World.
