The Game of Thrones Finale Is Going to Be a Bloodbath – And Likely for Your Favorite Charactersby

Anyone already invested in HBO’s epic adult fantasy series Game of Thrones – based on the A Song of Ice and Fire books written by George RR Martin – will already know that investing oneself too much in a character will only end badly for you. The writer of this article alone can barely hear the phrase ‘hold the door’ without fighting back tears! As fans will know, the production of the show’s eighth and final season is underway – and we will be travelling to the land of Westeros for the last time – at least for now – next year. The year off from the show’s schedule certainly irked a few hardcore viewers – but it’s thought that the hiatus will give the production team, cast and crew the time that they need to get the remaining few episodes – which are rumored to be in limited number, but feature-length – absolutely perfect.

HBO have this week confirmed that the final episode will be particularly devastating for long-time fans of the show, as multiple – many – characters will be killed off in the last few hours of the show. Francesca Orsi, on behalf of HBO Drama, confirmed that ‘one by one they started to fall down to their deaths’ – with regard to a final table reading of the last-ever episode. This, coupled with reports that some cast members were driven to tears by some of their characters’ fates in the final few scripts, seems to be making for a final season which will be a fitting send-off for some of the most compelling characters in television. Certainly, Thrones’ presence on TV will be missed – though HBO are working with several parties to help bring spin-offs from the same universe to our screens in the years to come.

Therefore, it’s now time to either count your blessings for your favorite characters, or to start drawing up your predictions. Will wisecracking Hand of the Queen Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage), a perennial fan favorite, make it out alive? What about Jon Snow (Kit Harington) who has risen from the ranks of the bastard son of Ned Stark to become King in the North? Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), mother of dragons, is also on the block – no one is safe – though we’re personally rooting for lovable Podrick Payne to survive the final hours of the show!
